Coast Regional Commissioner Engineer Evarist Ndikilo has said that the investment in a gas cylinder factory by Lake Group will eliminate the challenge of environmental degradation in and out of the Coast region.

Ndikilo made the remarks over the weekend after a one-day visit to some of the Industries in Kibaha Town Council.

He said, The factory which is the first in the country the cylinders that will be manufactured will reach the people easily and cheaply compared to imported from abroad.

“Extreme deforestation is coming to an end, environmental degradation due to the use of wood and charcoal is now ending after Lake Group set up this factory which is the first in the country” said Ndikilo.

Announcing the factory, Lake Oil Director Frank Nyabundege said the factory was one of the companies owned by Lake Group, including moths, moths, water pipes and gas cylinders.

Nyabundege said Lake Cylinder (the only cylinder manufacturer) is the only gas cylinder in East Africa, where when completed in all phases it will be able to employ 250 workers and in the first phase 25 workers have already found formal employment and 90 are informal jobs.

He said the factory has the capacity to manufacture 50,000 cylinders per month and 600,000 per year and that the cylinders are 30 percent of the cylinders imported in the country

He noted that the Lake Group company through its three factories will all be able to pay more than 2.8 billion in taxes.

The Governor also visited the Kairuki Human Pharmaceutical Factory which, if completed, will also reduce the cost of importing medicines.
