Programme Manager Youth

Role overview
In this role, you will be managing the Youth Programme for VSO Tanzania. This programme currently consists of three different projects, which are all headed by a project manager. The ideal candidate for this job will manage the strategic development, implementation and successful delivery of the Youth Programme, supporting all of VSO’s work in-country in order to optimize the contribution towards reducing poverty. Your main tasks will be built around programme development and delivery, programme funding, budgeting and forecasting, monitoring and evaluation, partnership development and management, and direct line management.

Skills, qualifications and experience required
Essential:
Excellent understanding of project cycle management tools to ensure effective planning, resourcing, implementation and review of programmes and experience of organizational assessment, planning and review tools and processes;
Practical experience of applying development issues at a project or community level. Able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of development issues. Experience and knowledge of the relevant program area;
Proven experience of securing external funding and grants, including proposal and report writing. Evidence of understanding the challenges of donor and contract management and the implications for program management;
Leadership and people management skills, experience in developing, coaching and managing high performing teams;
Experience of the financial management of budgets, including building a budget, monitoring and managing expenditure; Previous experience of having compiled financial reports;
Able to develop multiple ideas to solve an issue or situation and take a swift decision, including in a high risk situation;
Able to adapt to new and demanding situations, with experience of living and working in developing countries.
Competent Data usage: including speedy collation and analysis of complex and high volume data, using appropriate IT packages where necessary;
Able and willing to travel and work long hours, including work away from the home base for up to 30% of time, both within the country and occasionally internationally;
Desirable:
Practical experience gained within a volunteering/NGO context and of managing a volunteer program.
Experience and knowledge of the country and region.
Confidence and experience in external representation.
Fluency in English languages.
Clean, valid driving license.

Researcher Social and Gender Exclusion

Role overview
The volunteer will be conducting a desk and field research on social exclusion and gender accountability (SEGA) to inform signature programme development. Next to this, the volunteer will document existing best practices for scale up of the programme in the next few years.
Skills, qualifications and experience required
– Bachelor, or preferably Master’s Degree in research or social studies;
– Experience with reviewing current development programmes and identifying areas for improvement;
– Experience in executing (statistical) desk research and field research;
– Several years of experience in conducting large survey / fieldwork (data collection, validation, entry and analysis), leading field staff teams implementing surveys in the field.
– Big affinity with and preferably expertise in gender issues in developing countries;

Research Volunteer Resilience

Communication Specialist

Role overview
In this role, the communication specialist works closely with the communications manager to lead the development and roll out of VSO Tanzania communications strategy and policy – including both internal and external communications. The strategy will include mechanisms such as periodical newsletters to engage with former volunteers, partners and other stakeholders; a mapping of stakeholders, networks and platforms we can support alumni to engage in; levering and making professional use of all kinds of media, including the presence on all social media. The ideal person for this role has a passion for creating, maintaining, updating and executing a multimedia strategy which guarantees a positive and long-lasting exposure of VSO in general and all the projects involved.

Qualifications (essential):
Bachelors or Master’s Degree in communications, public relations, journalism or a similar discipline.
Experience
• Several years of relevant professional experience in a comparable position;
• Proven experience in developing and implementing communications strategies;
• Strong writing, editing and communications skills, next to experience in developing print and digital communications materials;
• Fluent in speaking and writing both Swahili and English;
• Proven ability in delivering relevant content to digital and social media;

Youth Council Representative

Role overview
The ideal candidate for this role is an excellent communicator and representative for the youth in the youth council of Zanzibar. The relationship with this youth council was set up through previous youth projects of VSO Tanzania, and we are now looking for volunteers who can build on these relationships and where possible, extend them further. Next to this, you will be jointly responsible for building relationships with the Dar es Salaam youth council, which are currently non-existing. During this placement, you will work together intensively with a national volunteer who is already representing youth in the youth council. . In this role, you will be working on supporting these youth councils in the design and the implementation of their youth policy. The main goal of this will be the strengthening of the council’s youth engagement and youth voice. Plans should be made, initiatives should be undertaken and these ideas are expected to be executed to further enhance youth engagement in Tanzanian society. This can only be achieved when the volunteer is in constant conversation, either face to face or through other communications channels, with young people and/or their representing bodies. Next to that, the volunteer should also be a representative of VSO both in- and outside of the targeted youth councils. Video Producer & Editor

Role overview
The ideal candidate for this role is an experienced video producer and editor. In this job, you will mainly work on creating video material and editing it in order to document the work being done by our projects across the country, particularly documenting VSO’s three core approaches Social Inclusion and Gender, Resilience and Social Accountability. The material should provide evidence of the change that our volunteers and our projects make in the day-to-day life of the marginalised and/or excluded Tanzanians in society. In collaboration with other staff, you will identify which regions and projects are most suitable to create video materials. Next to the creation of this footage, it is required to be aware of the different target audiences for these videos, regarding both content and graphical display. Environment, Health and Safety Advisor

Role overview
The ideal candidate for this post has a passion for providing technical support in order for vocational training centres to perform in a healthy, safe and environmentally friendly manner. The main responsibilities will consist of collaborating with other technical VSO advisers in ensuring the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) meets both national and international standards on HSE with a focus on oil and gas industries and its related supply chain. You will also work with colleagues from the Industry Links Programme to enhance the relevance of HSE between VETA and industries and provide input to improve the VETA curriculum on HSE. By working in this role, you can contribute to enhancing the overall level of educational training in the region and ultimately have students leave the training centres better prepared for the labour market.

Qualifications (essential):
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related studies with a background on health, safety and environment in industry service is required.
