The National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) is a Parastatal Organization under the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children. The Institute is mandated to carry out,
control, coordinate, register, monitor, evaluate and promote health research in Tanzania. The Institute is looking for qualified, competent and
self-motivated personnel to fill the position of Facility Maintenance Officer based at NIMR Headquarters in Dar es Salaam.
JOB SUMMARY
The main role of the Facilities Maintenance Officer is to perform routine maintenance tasks for the NIMR buildings and surroundings at the Headquarters. The position entails provision of technical support and
advice to Management related to the building systems and infrastructure encompassing Plumbing, Electrical, Security, Air-conditioning, Security and Fire Systems, Cold rooms and storage facilities, Painting, Structural,
Carpentry and Mechanical systems.
REQUIRED SKILLS
The position requires strong practical and technical abilities to inspect, troubleshoot and provide solutions and to identify service vendors when needed.
Applicant should have complex problem-solving skills, decisionmaking, critical thinking, time-management and team working skills.
Applicant must have ability to work well with self-supervisory skills,
good verbal and written communication skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform preventative maintenance of the building systems encompassing plumbing, electrical, security, fire, air-condition, mechanical and control systems and related components; test system competency and component devices and evaluate performance.
Repair and maintain a variety of facilities systems, components and structures; repair building plumbing, electrical systems, door hardware and software, fire and life safety protection
equipment/systems, sensors and related hardware and software; construct and maintain indoor/outdoor facilities, lights and related; conduct structural inspections for safety and painting.
Identify repair and maintenance areas requiring the assistance of contractor/vendors.
Participate in estimates and evaluations of project costs; monitor work of vendors or contractors; assist in the review of new construction or remodel plans to assure compliance with facility maintenance standards.
Conduct regular inspections to identify faulty equipment/systems
and perform repairs where and when it is necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Holder of Ordinary Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or NTA level 6 in Electrical Engineering or related field, with at-least three (3) years proven working experience in similar field. Higher
Diploma (NTA level 7) will be an added advantage.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMEMT Two (2) years renewable contract, subject to performance.
