Health Department Launches the National Malaria Elimination StrategicPlan 2019-2023

Pretoria: The National Department of Health will this week (31 July 2019) launch South Africa’s National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan (2019-2023) as part of continuing it’s efforts to eliminate malaria in South Africa.

Eliminating malaria in South Africa requires the development of sound strategies, and effective implementation of them. This is to systematically reduce local malaria transmission to zero in South Africa and neighbouring countries.

Eliminating malaria will also benefit the southern African countries on issues through ensuring economic growth (through increased trade and tourism). The SADC heads of state have therefore renewed their commitment to eliminate malaria (zero local malaria cases and deaths) by 2030 in the region.
