Form 2 national exams start Monday

A total of 521,855 students will sit this year’s Form 2 National Assessment, the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (Necta) has said.

The tests will be conducted from November 13 to 24.

Candidates are from 4,705 schools countrywide, Necta executive secretary Charles Msonde told a press conference Sunday, November 12.

“The aim of the Form 2 and Standard 4 national assessment is to gauge student performance ahead of national examinations,” he said.

Out of the 521, 855 students registered for assessment, 251,570 are boys (48.21 per cent) and 270,285 girls (51.79 per cent).

Among the candidates are 386 students with total and partial visual impairment. These will use special papers and additional time.

According to Dr Msonde, 435,075 students sat the assessment last year.

The Necta boss also announced that a total of 1,195,970 pupils in Tanzania Mainland will sit the Standard 4 national assessment from November 22-23. Candidates are from 17,224 schools.

Last year, 1,054,191 pupils sat the assessment in 2016.

This year, a total of 592,005 are boys (49.50 per cent) and 603,965 are girls (50.50 per cent).

Dr Msonde noted that there are 874 pupils with total and partial visual impairment, who will also use special papers and additional time.

 He directed regional and district examination committees to ensure examination regulations are obeyed and areas surrounding schools remain quiet and peaceful to enable the students conduct their exams comfortably.

 He warned that legal action, including deregistration of a particular education centre, will be taken where examination regulations are breached.
